# Humaneness Voice Large 1.5 Alpha — complete context manual

License: CC BY 4.0 for this manual. Model/dependency notices and specialist access gates remain applicable.

Model: https://huggingface.co/laion/Humaneness-Voice-Large-1.5-Alpha
Human listening/evidence: https://laion-humaneness-voice-large-prompting-manuals.static.hf.space/synthesis/index.html

This document is self-contained for choosing and composing recipes. Full result distributions, players and source snapshots are linked rather than embedded. Exact active direction text is preserved; this is not a paraphrased rerun.

## Model identity and loading

Original 1.5 = included 1.3 SFT base plus its final cumulative rank 128 RL adapter, applied ONCE by root `infer.py`. `base_model/` alone is 1.3. Do not add 1.4 separately. For native CFG use the existing Space `code/inference_example.py` and `code/native_cfg.py`, or `tools/infer_cfg.py` in this release.

The 1.6 release is this 1.5 lineage plus the final real-speech rank 4 adapter merged once. Its specialist adapters are NOT compatible with bare 1.3 or unmodified 1.5. Use the separate 1.6 manual for that route.

## Read this once

Spoken words belong in `text`. English directing language belongs in
`GENERAL` and inline `SCRIPT` directions. The two fields must contain the
same spoken words, in the same order. Do not put instructions into `text`.
The audio path produces twelve MOSS-v2 codebook indices every 80 ms (150/s),
decoded to 48 kHz mono. LoRA rank is unrelated to codec codebooks.

Use this canonical structure, with speech durations OUTSIDE parentheses:

```text
GENERAL: One adult speaker, clean high-quality recording, no music or sound effects. {GENERAL}
SCRIPT:
({LINE_1}) [3.2 seconds duration] {spoken sentence 1}
[0.3 seconds pause]
(surprised gasp, 0.4 seconds)
({LINE_2}) [3.8 seconds duration] {spoken sentence 2}
({LINE_3}) [3.2 seconds duration] {spoken sentence 3}
```

Use three sentences when following the measured recipes. Change literal
words and plausible duration budgets; preserve the selected directing prose.
Generalization to other words is intended, not guaranteed. For shorter/longer
scenes, reusing or adapting directions is an untested extension. Do not hide
a spoken interjection such as “Ah!” in a nonverbal-event metric. Written
ellipses can suggest hesitation but are not measured pause durations.

Recipe P08 sends only the GENERAL acting direction: each local cue becomes
`Natural clear speech.` P09 omits the stored GENERAL acting direction but
keeps the shared clean-recording sentence and all three local cues. Other
P01–P07 recipes use both. The direction dictionary below already removes
inactive fields; do not restore a direction that its recipe did not send.

Reference audio: one clean speaker, another utterance, preferably 5.04–14.96s.
Crop the waveform before codec encoding, retain 63–187 frames, and never
restore the old 2.96 s cap. A nearest-neighbor timbre match is not proof of
speaker identity. With no reference, keep timbre/identity guidance in GENERAL
or use a registered alias through the model wrapper; do not prepend an alias
to spoken text. Names are listed in `base_model/VOICE_ALIASES.md`.

## CFG and adapter strength are separate controls

At each causal codebook decision, compute conditional and neutral logits;
use `neutral + cfg * (conditional - neutral)`. At CFG 1 use the conditional
logits directly. The measured backend guides the 12 audio channels and leaves
the conditional stop head unchanged. It does not extrapolate semantic hidden
vectors. Keep separate caches but feed BOTH branches the same sampled tokens.
Text, reference and timing stay identical; remove acting directions from the
neutral branch. Neutral local cues are `Natural clear speech.` Keep nonverbal
events in the neutral branch unless the recipe explicitly says matched_pause.
That exceptional arm replaces the event with a pause of equal duration.

Use the recorded CFG. Higher CFG can increase intensity while worsening words,
identity or stability; there is no universal optimum. Adapter scale multiplies
only the new adapter residual and is NOT CFG. Native `a`/`b` tensors are not
PEFT adapters. Never apply an already-merged ancestor again. Do not combine
multiple specialist adapters without a new evaluation.

## Evidence labels and selecting a recipe

PASS = preselected recipe passed the sealed speech/identity checks.
DIAGNOSTIC = measured but failed a quality/identity gate; research starting
point only. CORRECTED-UNTESTED = taxonomy corrected, not validated on this
policy. CORRECTED-REF = corrected meaning tested with references only.
Selection was fixed before the sealed comparison; a control sometimes has a
higher final score. Do not replace the winner after inspecting that test.

Earlier recipes use EN/DE, fixed references/no-reference arms and five seeds.
Matched specialist routes use five languages, one fixed reference voice per
language, unseen texts and two seeds (50 takes/configuration). These are
different studies, not universal language/voice guarantees or human MOS.
Source metrics and failures remain at the linked evidence pages.

Pure-emotion/style prompting search uses 100% of its named EARS target head.
Mixed scenarios combine the listed weighted heads. High/low means increase/
decrease the named head after frozen training-distribution CDF normalization.
CE and genuineness are diagnostics, not search rewards. This differs from
the 1.5 RL training reward: 20% CE, 40% source-top-two emotion matching, 40% genuineness.
For specialist qualification retain WER<=15% per take, mean<=10%, valid/EOS
>=90% and paired identity delta>=-0.05, plus measured benefit over controls.
Whole-clip emotion scores cannot prove a correctly timed gasp/scream.

Taxonomy: S_MONO means introspective monologue, NOT monotone. S_TECH means
teacher-like/didactic delivery. VOLT means emotional volatility, NOT loudness.
Do not turn every emotion into shouting: quiet affection or grief can be intense.

## Tool-call contract

Select the model by downloading the corresponding repository and using its
root loader. `MODEL_ID.json` must match the selected manual. Inference fields:
`text`, `prompt` or `prompt_file`, `language`, `seconds`, `seed`, `output`.
Supported languages: en/de/fr/nl/es; recipe evidence can be narrower.
Optional: `reference_wav` OR `voice_name`.
For CFG>1 supply the matching `neutral_prompt`/file and `cfg` to the native
CFG entry point. For a 1.6 specialist use `infer_recipe.py --target` with the
exact bucket ID. The registry resolves its scale, compatible revision and
adapter checksum; only one new bucket adapter is loaded. For an ordinary
model recipe use `--recipe` and three sentences in `--sentences-json`.
The included `tools/inference.schema.json` describes ordinary inference inputs,
not an automatically installed external tool or the separate recipe CLI.

Always record model revision, precision, recipe ID, CFG, adapter/scale,
text, seed, reference crop and frame budget. Inspect intelligibility, EOS,
reference identity and intended bursts; retain failures rather than choosing
only flattering seeds. Human listening is needed before production claims.

## Direction dictionary conventions

Each D-code below stores the exact active GENERAL and three inline directions.
Add the shared clean-recording sentence from the template once. A route marked
`standard` instead uses the separately recorded standard fallback; it does not
use the rejected candidate's wording. Source events are listed before their
zero-based sentence index. Timing is seconds; the template uses one decimal
for speech and two decimals for the measured event examples.

## All 69 model-specific recipes

Evidence paths below are relative to https://laion-humaneness-voice-large-prompting-manuals.static.hf.space/. Status meanings are defined above. Use the exact D-code; the GENERAL/SCRIPT compiler rules remain mandatory.
